Father,
You so loved the world, that You gave Your only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
Why does this life transforming truth not change us? Why do we not marvel at the gift of eternal life? Why do we find earthly gifts more precious than what You have given us through Your Son?
O Lord, forgive us. Forgive us for turning to things like wealth, influence, or achievement to save us. Forgive us for relying on the things of this world to give us life. Forgive us for fearing the condemnation of man far more than Your righteous judgement against sinners.
Help us to treasure the gift of eternal life afresh. Help us to receive the fullness of the greatest love in the universe. Help us to worship Your Son, the only name which has the power of salvation. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
