Father,
How beautiful is Your steadfast love which never ceases. How wonderful it is that heaven rejoices when one lost sheep is brought back into Your Kingdom.
But why do we not rejoice over our own precious salvation? Why does the best news in the world seem so dull to us? Why do we prioritise so many things above the pursuit of holiness?
Is it not because we fail to grasp the depravity of our sins in contrast to Your holiness? Forgive us for making the cross so small as if we can cleanse our sins with filthy rags. Forgive us for resting on work righteousness rather than the finished work of Jesus.
Help us marvel at the costly forgiveness through Jesus. Help us behold the Cross with great joy because our guilt is taken away, and our sins atoned for. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
