Father we come – wearied by work, worn-out by labour, withering without rest. We are burdened by our job insecurity, incompetent performances, and the insensitivities of our workplaces.
Lord, we come to You for rest. Carry our burdens, O God! Carry us.
Father, at times work is a drudgery: purposeless, repetitive, dull. At times work is life-giving: full of vision, vigour, and excitement.
At times our work clearly serves the greater good! At times we wonder what benefit or good our labour brings.
Lord, we come to You for rest. Carry our burdens, O God! Carry us.
Father, where we have made gods out of work – forgive us. Where we have despised the work You have called us to – forgive us.
Where we have looked to ourselves – rather than to You – as ‘Provider’, ‘Purpose-Giver’, and ‘Judge’, forgive us.
King Jesus, we come to You for rest. Carry our burdens, O Shepherd! Carry us. We ask this in Your name alone. Amen.
