Father, You are a good God in good times and bad times. You are the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.
We confess that we don’t run to You for comfort often enough. We tend to put more hope in entertainment, comfort food, retail therapy, and all kinds of things that comfort the flesh but not the spirit.
Forgive us for being too self-absorbed in our affliction. Forgive us for making it all about us. Forgive us for blaming others or even blaming You rather than submitting ourselves to Your divine plan.
Help us to seek You for comfort and comfort those who are in any affliction. Help us to rejoice in sharing abundantly in Christ’s suffering, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
Lord, would You do a deep work in our hearts. Help us embrace the words of Jesus that, blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. In His name, we pray. Amen.
