Father,
Even though Your children walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we fear no evil. For You are with us. Your rod and your staff, they comfort us. You alone are our shield and refuge.
But we seek protection apart from You. We trust in man made things and methods to keep us safe. We fail to obey Your command to love one another when we choose to protect ourselves rather than those who are far more vulnerable.
Forgive us for shutting our ears from the cries for help. Forgive us for being aloof when we ought to help sacrificially, especially those who are in our natural and spiritual families.
Help us God. Help us to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with You. Use us to stand in the gap against evil and violence as Jesus has done for us. In His name we pray. Amen.
