Matthew 8:23-27 is short passage with only five verses but it’s one of the most breathtaking moments in the Gospel of Matthew. The disciples are in a boat with Jesus. A violent storm hits. They panic. Jesus sleeps. Then with a single command, He calms the storm — and the disciples are left whispering, “What kind of man is this?”

That’s the central question of this story. And Matthew gives us the answer: Jesus is no ordinary man. He is the sovereign God who rules over creation, commands the chaos, and calls us to trust Him.
