Father, we confess that we often find little joy in the cross. When we think about our crucified Saviour, many times we do so with a heavy heart. Sometimes, we feel guilty and ashamed that Jesus would take our place in such a horrendous way.
Father, forgive us. We have dishonoured Christ in this way! Has He not said, “No one takes my life from me, but I lay it down of my own accord”? Was it not written of Him, “for the joy set before him, He endured the cross”? Forgive us!
Help us to see Him laying down His life for His friends! Help us to see Him satisfying the wrath of God on our behalf! Help us to see Him becoming the curse for our blessedness! Help us to see the cross, and rejoice. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
